As County Commissioner, Kathy George has worked to ensure cost-effective, responsive, and accountable government.
- She has been the liaison to the County Veterans’ department and was one of three county commissioners in the state to serve on a State Veteran’s Department committee to ensure equality in disbursement of state funds.
- She is the liaison to the Emergency Management department and is working to improve communication and coordination between communities and between the county departments and local first responders. The county is working to increase the number of trained and qualified volunteers who can assist during times of emergency.
- As liaison commissioner to the Health and Human Services department, she has prioritized cooperation and coordination between non-profits, faith-based groups, local citizens and county departments in providing needed services. She is the county’s representative to the Mid-Willamette Valley Senior and Disability Services Board. She has prioritized support-employment services for those with severe mental illnesses so they can live more normal lives. She has also helped create the Ending Homelessness Plan designed to help people become self supporting, and coordinating efforts locally and countywide.
- She is currently the liaison commissioner to our local Commission on Children and Families (CCF). CCF has recently been successful in receiving a 3 year literacy grant, has been instrumental in bringing the 2-1-1 call system to the county
- She is liaison to the Parks Board and is engaged in improving and promoting our county park system.
- She heads the county’s Water Task Force to ensure adequate long term water supply for local communities. She is also a member of the Water Committee for the Association of Oregon Counties that works to monitor state legislation that might impact the water rights of local citizens and cities.
- She serves on the Board of Directors for YCAP, the county’s regional Food Bank and a provider of public transit.
- She represents the Association of Oregon Counties to the State Interoperability Executive Council (SIEC) and also on the Oversight Committee to Oregon’s Wireless Interoperability Network (OWIN). OWIN is the mandated statewide communications system to ensure that all public safety providers are able to communicate with each other in emergencies such as forest fires or earthquakes.
- Kathy has recently been appointed by the governor to the Oregon Broadband Advisory Council.
- Kathy is the County’s alternate member of the by-pass advocacy “Parkway Committee.”
- Previously, she has been liaison to the Sheriff’s Office and is very supportive of the Public Safety department and justice system.
